Cardiac Genetics Unit
Many Cardiac disorders are caused by inherited gene mutations. In recent years researchers have made significant discoveries into the molecular mechanisms that underlie a number of important genetic Cardiac disorders. This new information is helping to redefine our understanding of heart failure and risk for sudden cardiac death. Unraveling the molecular and genetic basis for Cardiac disease and then applying this knowledge to improve patient care defines the next era of medicine.
The Cardiac Genetics Unit provides evaluation, diagnosis, and management of individuals and families with inherited cardiac disorders, including:
•Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM)
•Familial dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM)
•Inherited arrhythmias
•Inherited aortic aneurysms
•Marfan Syndrome
